David’s talent for and love of design and construction can be traced throughout his life. From tearing apart things (e.g., his mom’s typewriter, his dad’s lawnmower, his own cassette player) just to see how things worked … to thriving in high school woodworking and metal shop … to pursuing a degree in drafting and visual communication, David’s passion for all things design and construction has been front and center.
David applied his talents to two decades in the aquatics industry, where he designed and built waterparks and large natatorium pools. While advancing his career, he became deeply interested in woodworking and began making furniture for himself, family, and friends nearly 15 years ago.
Since studying new methods and techniques at the well-known Center for Furniture Craftsmanship (Maine) and honing intricate veneering skills at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking (Indiana), David has made furniture design and craftsmanship his full-time passion and can be found every day working in his David Calvin Furniture Studio.
David has a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology with an emphasis in visual communications and a minor in business management. His is an American Society of Interior Designers Industry Partner and Board Member for ASID Florida West Coast, and is a member of The Furniture Society, Keep Saint Petersburg Local, and Florida Craft Art.
In addition to furniture craftsmanship, David has a passion for golf (he’s always trying to shoot under his age (48) in nine holes); gardening; traveling to other sunny, warm places; and his wife, Amy, of more than 20 years.
